The focus of Kai’s practice is the carriage of goods and national and international commerce, in particular litigation and dispute resolution in these areas. Kai has a commercial training background with one of the long-established German maritime freight forwarders and is a bar-certified specialist for the law of carriage of goods. He has substantial experience of defending complex cargo claims, including arising out of the handling of cargo, and involving all modes of carriage, be it by road, rail, air, sea or inland shipping. Kai also acts as arbitrator.
Kai has developed particular experience in complex marine casualty work, in particular events involving collision, fire and explosion damage. Kai’s experience in this area ranges from the taking of evidence locally, to the detailed analysis of claim routes including under the vessel’s insurances and the conduct of litigation.
Kai is a co-author of the Hamburg Handbook on Export Trade edited by Paschke/Graf/Olbrisch.
