Dieter has a substantial practice focused on insurance and shipping. His work in these fields includes high value insurance and carriage of goods litigation and complex transactional work. Dieter has profound knowledge and experience of the law of insurance and reinsurance and acts for insurance companies in complex issues of coverage under policies of all kinds. Dieter also advises insurance companies regarding the drafting of terms of cover and on regulatory issues relevant to establishing an insurance business in Germany. Dieter is regularly instructed by ship owners and banks to advise on large and heavily-structured ship finance projects, whether for the restructuring of distressed projects or in connection with the sourcing of private equity in foreign jurisdictions for new projects. Dieter advises suppliers and buyers in all matters of shipbuilding. Dieter represents sea, road and rail carriers, cargo interests and their insurers in carriage of goods litigation, and is frequently appointed as arbitrator in German and international arbitrations.

The internationally renowned „Who’s Who Legal“ in its 2018 Germany edition listed Dieter Armbrust as TOP-lawyer in maritime law as well as highlighting his excellence in insurance, re-insurance, litigation and transactions.
