Johannes has more than 20 years’ experience in shipping law and litigation. Johannes has very substantial experience in the area of marine collisions, casualties and salvage, both at sea and on inland waterways. Johannes has developed a particular expertise in cases involving complex technical and nautical issues and is one of the most highly regarded experts in this field in Germany. He has advised and represented clients in numerous high profile cases involving fire, black-out, stability issues, vibration and corrosion and is regularly instructed on issues of limitation of liability and in connection with attempts to break limitation. Johannes is regularly instructed by German and international ship owners and their P&I Clubs. Johannes is also very active in the renewable energy sector, in particular the German offshore wind sector. He has been involved in a large number of the offshore wind projects in Germany. He advises clients in connection with maritime issues arising in this field ranging from underwater cable-laying and cable damage to large shipbuilding and chartering projects. Johannes’s clients include industrial groups, ship owners, P&I Clubs, insurers and shipyards. Johannes also has substantial experience in the area of product liability.

The Who’s Who Legal 2018 highlights Dr. Johannes Trost as regarded by peers “a great lawyer” and in the field of shipping law “a real expert”. Since 2014, Johannes is also consistently named in the yearly editions of the JUVE handbook as a “frequently recommended lawyer”. The 2015 edition of the legal 500 refers to Johannes as a “luminary in inland waterway law”. Corporate International has honored Dr. Trost with the „Marine Casualties Lawyer of the Year in Germany 2019“ award.

With his family Dr. Trost is a keen sailor and an enthusiast for his antique motor boat „MARIA av RANÖHAMN“ from 1938.
